Pokemon Horizons is the newest series in the Pokemon anime, beginning a new era where Ash Ketchum steps down from his role as the main hero in the Pokemon world. In his place, two newcomers step up as the hero and heroine. In Pokemon Horizons, Liko and Roy join a band of adventurers known as the Rising Volt Tacklers as they travel around the world, enjoying all sorts of adventures.

Pokemon fans eagerly wait for more episodes of the newest series and season of the anime they've grown to love. However, it takes time for more Pokemon episodes to be released. In Gakuen Alice, Mikan Sakura follows her best friend Hotaru Imai to the city to attend a prestigious school. However, this school isn't an ordinary school for elite students. It's a school for people called Alices, gifted people with powers unique to each and every Alice. Though Mikan came to the school knowing nothing of its true nature, Mikan is said to possess a rare Alice. However, not everything is as it appears to be at this school. Behind its grand features are lies and secrets. Mikan slowly discovers the true nature of the school for Alices as the series progresses.

Just like Liko's pendant holds secrets beyond her wildest dreams, so too does this prestigious school. Both Liko and Mikan will need to rely on their friends to brave the dangers their current circumstances brings. While Pokemon are the ones with unique abilities in Pokemon Horizons, people possess supernatural abilities, also referred to as Alices, in Gakuen Alice. In both stories, there are plenty of secrets to uncover as the characters come closer to discovering the truth of their own circumstances. Plus, Gakuen Alice is a classic anime that started in 2004, giving it the sort of nostalgic feeling a classic Pokemon fan may love.

9 Ruko Plays a Wish-Granting Card Game in Selector Infected Wixoss

The Game of Wixoss Can Grant Wishes, But There's Always a Price

Selector Infected Wixoss is the tale of a wish-granting card tournament full of cards that have their own spirits and wills. In this anime, Ruko Kominato joins the game of Wixoss despite not having any wish to motivate her in the beginning. Ruko gains a grand wish over time that has the potential to change the game of Wixoss forever. She just has to survive this game long enough to make that wish a reality.

The Pokemon games led to an anime and a card game, but the opposite is true for Selector Infected Wixoss. The anime is based off of the game Wixoss by Takara Tomy. However, both anime have their similarities. Both begin with a young girl who isn't quite sure what sort of future she wants for herself. She's given the means to take that future into her own hands when given a partner - Liko's Sprigatito or Ruko's Wixoss deck. However, the adventure ahead won't be easy. Instead Liko and Ruko should expect twists and turns as they determine what they want in life and work to make that wish a reality.

My-Otome is a spin-off of the anime series My-Hime, although it's set in a new setting with different characters. In this anime, female virgins can take on the role of Meister Otome - warrior women who serve the royalty of various kingdoms in this fantastical world. The protagonist, Arika Yumemiya, comes to Windbloom Kingdom to find her mother, who she knows served there as an Otome. Arika joins Garderobe Academy to follow in her mother's footsteps and become an Otome as well. The road ahead won't be easy, but Arika is an Otome now, and she has her friends to help her along the way.

Liko and Arika are both determined, energetic young girls. Arika begins her story more sure of what she wants, though, drawing contrast with the indecisive Liko. Arika must work with her female friends to protect the kingdom of Windbloom, while Liko has the freedom to travel the world with the Rising Volt Tacklers. Their journeys will be full of twists, turns, and lots of adventures, but they can succeed if they trust themselves and rely on their friends.

7 Yo-Kai Keep Causing Chaos in Yo-Kai Watch

With a Yo-Kai Watch, Yo-Kai Can Be Seen and Even Befriended

Yo-Kai Watch began as another monster catcher style game which grew popular enough to have its own anime series and other media to help support the franchise. In the anime, Nathan "Nate" Adams - or Keita Amano, in the Japanese version - finds a strange gachapon machine that dispenses the Yo-Kai Whisper. Whisper gives Nate the Yo-Kai Watch, allowing him to begin hunting for Yo-Kai instead of insects. Nate soon discovers that the world is full of Yo-Kai, constantly causing trouble. Luckily, with his newfound Yo-Kai Watch, Nate can see and help the Yo-Kai, receiving their help later on by inserting their token into his watch. However, Yo-Kai aren't always as helpful as Nate would like.

Pokemon Horizons and Yo-Kai Watch begin with a similar premise: finding a mystical artifact that draws the attention of others. Nate finds the Yo-Kai Watch and Liko begins wearing her pendant. Both Nate and Liko rely on otherworldly creatures with fantastical powers in order to help them in their quests. At times, Nate's adventures may seem more mundane than anything Liko goes through, but both can experience strange occurrences as they go through their fantastical adventures. Yo-Kai Watch is its own monster though, despite also being based on a monster-catching game, so Pokemon fans should expect plenty of differences.

6 Rinko Searches for the Jewelpets Who Fell Into Her World

Magical Girls Meet Their Mascot Partners

Jewelpet begins with the titular pets being turned into Jewel Charms before accidentally being scattered across Takaragaseki City on Earth. A particular rabbit Jewelpet named Ruby is blamed for the others being scattered and is sent to Earth to retrieve them. There, Ruby meets and befriends a human girl named Rinko Kougyoku, who saw the Jewelpets fall to earth and mistakenly believed they were shooting stars. Now, Ruby and Rinko have to work together to find all the Jewelpets and return them to Jewel Land before an evil Jewelpet named Diana finds them first. The journey ahead won't be easy but, with magic and good friends to help Rinko and Ruby out, anything is possible.

Like Liko, Jewelpet's Rinko has trouble with school and reaching out to others, but she also has a strong heart full of justice. A cute animal mascot changes the trajectory of these girls' lives forever. Rinko is forced to reach out to others with the help of her Jewelpet to recover all the lost Jewelpets before anything bad can happen. Liko, meanwhile, has to leave her school to join the Rising Volt Tacklers' in order to keep her precious pendant safe. Along the way, both girls make friends and rely on their animal-like partner to help succeed even when the going gets tough.

Yume and Mew Search for the Wish-Granting Dreamy Stones

In Mewkledreamy, Yume is an ordinary girl who suddenly has a kitten plush fall out of the sky and into her life. This plush becomes Yume's partner, called a Dream Partner, and has the power to enter others' dreams with a technique called "Dream Synchro". One night, the princess of the Miracle Dreamy Kingdom appeared in Yume's dream, telling her to collect Dreamy Stones with Mew. If she does, the princess will grant Yume one wish. Together, the two explore others' dreams to find the dreamy stones capable of granting whatever Yume's heart desires.

In both Pokemon Horizons and Mewkledreamy, an energetic young girl has her life turned upside down and becomes more exciting when she gains a cat-like partner. Mew may just be a plush kitten, but she's just as alive and energetic as the grass cat Pokemon Sprigatito. These girls will have to work with their cat-like partners in order to make their dreams come true. They just have to figure out what exactly they're wanting first.

4 Amu Seeks Her True Self in Shugo Chara!

Amu May Seem Cool, But Even She Doesn't Know What Kind of Person She Is

In Shugo Chara!, Amu Hinamori is a student attending Seiyo Elementary. Her peers admire her for how cool, calm, and collected she seems, but they don't know Amu's true self. Not even Amu knows what she's really like. One night, Amu wishes for the courage to find out who she truly is and what she really wants, only to wake up the next morning with three strange eggs in her bed. These eggs hatch into the fairy-like Shugo Charas who aid Amu in fulfilling her dream to find out who she really is. Along the way, Amu joins Seiyo Elementary's Guardians and begins her search for X Eggs and X Characters.

Liko and Amu may seem different in terms of personality, but they both have some similarities. While Amu is cool and a bit of a punk, Liko is soft-spoken and unsure of herself. However, both girls begin their respective stories unsure of who they really are as a person and what it is they want. They both gain a magical partner - the Shugo Charas or Sprigatito - who helps push Amu and Liko out of their comfort zone, causing them to think outside of the box and learn more about themselves. They also join a group of good-natured souls, the Guardians and the Rising Volt Tacklers, who help Amu and Liko. The girls in turn try to help their new friends, pushing the two further from their comfort zone and into a new world they never would have expected.

These Digidestined Children Are Looking for the Way Home

Digimon and Pokemon have long been comparable series, both being about youths who team up with supernaturally strong creatures to befriend and fight together. However, Pokemon Horizons is more like Digimon Adventure than Ash's original journey ever was. Both have an over-arching plot as the characters travel the world - or the digital world - and grow as people with their monster partners. Along the way, they have plenty of adventures, but never forget their ultimate goal to either find their way home in Digimon or protect Liko's pendant in Pokemon Horizons.

Digimon Adventure is an anime series originally released in 1999 based on the Digimon virtual pets that were popular at the time. In this series, seven children are suddenly transported from summer camp into a whole other world - the digital world. There, they meet their Digidestined partners and begin their journey to try and find a way home. The path won't be easy, with threats like Devimon and Myotismon trying to achieve their own goal, but these kids can do anything if they work together with their Digimon partners.

2 Misaki Joins a Doll-Fighting Tournament in Angelic Layer

CLAMP Tries Their Hand at Shonen Anime

Angelic Layer tells the tale of the short seventh grader, Misaki Suzuhara. Misaki had just moved in with her aunt in Tokyo when she discovers a competition called Angelic Layer. In this competition, dolls called Angels are sent by their players, called Deus, to fight via mental control. Misaki soon gets her own Angel, who she named Misaki after the character in Magic Knight Rayearth, and begins to compete in Angelic Layer. As with many other CLAMP series, Angelic Layer has plenty of connections to other CLAMP manga, including Chobits and Magic Knight Rayearth, including recurring characters and real world manga adapted for the setting.

Misaki and Liko are both good-natured, energetic girls who don't know much about the world they're getting into. There's much Liko still needs to learn about the world of Pokemon, including her partner Pokemon, Sprigatito. Meanwhile, Misaki doesn't know much about Angelic Layer, despite being fascinated in it. That doesn't stop her from trying to learn all she can and competing in Angelic Layer competitions though. Together, the girls are guided by their friends and the companions they make along the way towards a bright new future.

1 Sakura Searches for the Clow Cards in Cardcaptor Sakura

Sakura Is More Than Your Average Elementary School Student

In Cardcaptor Sakura, ten-year-old Sakura Kinomoto accidentally finds the book containing the Clow Cards in her father's basement library. Curious about the contents, Sakura accidentally releases the Clow Cards and their guardian Kero, short for Cerberus. Now, Sakura will have to work together with Kero and her friend Tomoyo in order to get the Clow Cards back. It won't be easy, though, especially since Sakura isn't the only one trying to get the Clow Cards back. Luckily, Sakura isn't so easily stopped and eagerly faces her new challenges with a smile.

Early on in both Cardcaptor Sakura and Pokemon Horizons, the series' heroines get in over their heads. Sakura has to find and gather the Clow Cards, even with the magical havoc they're wreaking. Meanwhile, Liko's pendant draws the attention of the mysterious Explorers, who are determined to take the pendant for their own purposes. However, Liko and Sakura are not alone. They have good friends who are determined to help them through the tough times, helping the heroines face off against the villains even when the going gets rough and things get scary.
